As ecommerce shopping continues to rise, so too does the demand for residential deliveries, and we have the data to prove it. Can you believe that in the three-week lead-up to Christmas 2022 Kiwis spent $2.89 billion, a 0.8% spending increase compared to prior years?

Read on to learn how we performed during this high-spend period.

New Zealand Couriers’ primary goal is to ensure that our premium service offer delivers only excellence in performance and customer service standards. We are committed to providing customers with quality when it comes to all their delivery needs.

To ensure this, from time to time, we commission independent Residential Network Delivery Comparison Tests through Mobius Research & Strategy. Below we uncover who performed best both recently and historically.

December 2022

What was tested?

On 19 December 2022, 396 parcels were sent from Auckland to identical residential addresses around New Zealand. 198 parcels through New Zealand Couriers and 198 parcels through NZ Post. The deliveries were tracked with the following results.

What were the results of the test?

New Zealand Couriers delivered 66% of the parcels the next day and 92% within two days, while NZ Post delivered 30% of the parcels the next day and 78% within two days. That is over two times the amount of parcels delivered the next day by New Zealand Couriers compared to NZ Post.

New Zealand Couriers, on average, delivered parcels in nearly half the time it took NZ Post to do so. That is to say, on average, 19 hours and 36 minutes earlier, delivering to the same residential addresses across the same delivery period.

  1. N=198 ‘overnight’ courier items were sent through each network – with one item from each company (New Zealand Couriers and NZ Post) being sent to each of the 198 individual recipient’s addresses. This provides a margin of error (for reporting purposes) of +/-6.98% at the 95% confidence level.
  2. The items were inserted into both networks in Auckland on Monday, 19 December, 2022. The delivery duration was calculated to be the time between 12.00am on Tuesday, 20 December, 2022 and the actual day and time of delivery of the item to the recipient.
  3. Delivery durations were calculated based on the ‘track and trace’ details provided on each company’s website.
