Introduction
On Friday the 18th of November 2022, 26 children from Pride Lands were welcomed into the Wellington depot and given a tour by Mark Neilson (Regional Manager), Paul McLaughlin (Distribution Manager) and Cushla De Groot (New Business Representative). This marks the start of Pride Lands’ relationship with New Zealand Couriers.
The team was given a tour of the depot and shown how parcels are sorted, loaded onto trucks and sent to their destination. The children were impressed with what they saw and enjoyed learning about how New Zealand Couriers operates.
Who is Pride Lands?
Pride Lands is a social development group based in Wellington for kids from the age of 5 to 12 years old. They offer various before and after-school care programs and activities for children during school holidays. These are designed to not only nurture the children but to also provide support to their families. Their vision is to “help guide children through to adulthood, to help as many children as possible, and to provide this assistance anywhere it is needed, and to any age.”
Learning about the exciting world of courier services
Pride Lands organised a visit to our Wellington depot for their kids to learn about the different roles and services of a courier and gain insight into the day-to-day operations within the warehouse. “It was great to see the kids so excited about learning about the courier industry. We were happy to show them around and explain the safety procedures and courier distributions we have in place,” says Paul.
The children were then taken to the dispatch floor and shown how parcels are sorted, packed, and shipped – even sorting some freight into the TCPs! The kids had lots of fun watching the process from beginning to end. Following that, they got to sit in our trucks and feel what it is like to be high up in the cab.
The day ended with a tour of the depot and facilities, where staff members took the time to answer any questions the kids had about their jobs and showed them how technology helps us manage our network more efficiently.
The children had a blast learning about how couriers operate within their local community and exploring all aspects of deliveries, from sorting procedures to safety precautions. They were eager to learn and asked plenty of questions throughout the tour. This experience gave them a better understanding of the importance of courier services and some insight into potential career opportunities in this field.
