Our research shows these events see significantly higher consumer spending compared to many others, emphasizing their importance in the retail calendar and their impact on eCommerce operations.

What was tested?
Overall in 2024, a total of 1198 parcels were sent from Auckland to identical residential addresses around New Zealand. 599 parcels through New Zealand Couriers and 599 parcels through NZ Post. The deliveries were tracked with the following results.
What were the results of the test?
New Zealand Couriers delivered 94% of the parcels the next day and 97% within two days, while NZ Post delivered 50% of the parcels the next day and 85% within two days.
On average, New Zealand Couriers delivered parcels to residential addresses 26 hours and 58 minutes earlier than NZ Post.
- N=599 ‘overnight’ courier were sent through each network – with one item from each company (New Zealand Couriers and New Zealand Post) being sent to individual recipient’s addresses. This provides a margin of error (for reporting purposes) of +/- 4% at the 95% confidence level.
- Delivery durations were calculated based on the ‘track and trace’ details provided on each company’s website, and
- Delivery duration was calculated to be from 12.01am on the day after the items were inserted into each network at their main branch – and 8.30am, and the actual day and time of delivery of the item to the recipient.

From January 2020 onwards, 12 Network Performance Tests have been done during the busiest seasons for the industry. New Zealand Couriers focuses on ensuring that the best service possible is offered to customers especially through peak shopping seasons.
Ecommerce shopping increased significantly during this time and all couriers networks were under pressure.
On average, New Zealand Couriers, delivered parcels to residential addresses 64% faster than NZ Post.
May 8th: During the Mother’s Day period, New Zealand Couriers delivered on average 17 hours and 23 minutes earlier than NZ Post, which was 57% faster.
December 2nd: On the Black Friday/Cyber Monday season, New Zealand Couriers delivered 29 hours and 21 minutes earlier than NZ Post, which was 65% faster.
December 18th: During Christmas, on average New Zealand Couriers were 71% quicker delivering 36 hours and 12 minutes earlier than NZ Post did.
