Ecommerce shopping and spending continue to soar, meaning more and more deliveries are bound for residential addresses. We are focused on ensuring our premium service offer is not only performing as well as possible, but it’s providing our customers with the best service standard within our industry.

As part of ensuring this, from time to time we commission independent Residential Network Delivery Comparison Tests through Mobius Research & Strategy. Keep reading to see who performed best both recently and over past tests.

June 2022

What was tested?

On 30 May 2022, a total of 378 parcels were sent from Auckland to identical residential addresses around New Zealand. 189 parcels through New Zealand Couriers and 189 parcels through NZ Post. The deliveries were tracked with the following results.

What were the results of the test?

New Zealand Couriers delivered 85% of the parcels the next day and 94% within two days while NZ Post delivered 44% of the parcels the next day and 89% within two days. That is almost two times the amount of parcels delivered the next day by New Zealand Couriers compared to NZ Post.

New Zealand Couriers on average delivered 55% of the time that it took NZ Post to do so. That’s on average 13 hours and 23 minutes earlier, delivering to the same residential addresses and across the same delivery period.

  1. N=189 ‘overnight’ courier items were sent through each network – with one item from each company (New Zealand Couriers and NZ Post) being sent to each of the 189 individual recipient’s addresses. This provides a margin of error (for reporting purposes) of +/-7.1% at the 95% confidence level.
  2. The items were inserted into both networks in Auckland on Monday 30 May, 2022. The delivery duration was calculated to be the time between 12.00am on Tuesday 31 May, 2022 and the actual day and time of delivery of the item to the recipient.
  3. Delivery durations were calculated based on the ‘track and trace’ details provided on each company’s website.
